U.S. Cuts Off Hamas’ Financing Network

State and Treasury Departments announce designations and sanctions against individuals and entities supporting the terrorist group.

The Departments of State and the Treasury announced that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated a Hamas military operative and a France-based fundraising network that used sham charities and cryptocurrency that provide critical financing to Hamas.

“Terrorist organizations like Hamas rely on sophisticated financial facilitators and fraudulent schemes designed to exploit the public to sustain their operations,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent.  “Treasury will continue to identify, isolate, and impose consequences on those who provide Hamas with the financial lifelines it needs to survive.”

“This action underscores the enduring U.S. commitment to dismantling Hamas’s global support networks and denying the group the resources it needs to plan and carry out terrorism that threatens the security of Americans, our partners, and the broader Middle East,“ State Department Spokesman Tommy Pigott said. “It reflects close coordination between the Department of State, the Department of the Treasury, and the FBI to expose how Hamas exploits humanitarian and charitable structures abroad to disguise terrorist financing as legitimate aid work.“
